Central Nebraska’s Rescue Mission Expands With New Thrift Store
Central Nebraska’s Rescue Mission is expanding. The nonprofit recently opened a new thrift store in Holdrege. Proceeds from the stores will support the organization’s homeless services. Crossroads’ mission is to bring glory to God through the helping of people. It offers a 4-Phase Recovery Program and transitional housing.
Each campus provides comprehensive care in a nurturing environment. It features safe shelter, hot meals, life skills classes and one on one case management that equips guests for successful living after their time at the facility.
The Mission
Crossroads Mission Avenue is Central Nebraska’s Rescue Mission, bringing glory to God by helping people. Their proven 4-phase program empowers their guests to become self-sufficient through employment, financial independence and stable housing. This equips them for life after the shelter and leads to homelessness prevention.
Their new Mission Avenue Thrift Store is now open in Broken Bow. Located at 440 South 8th Street, the location offers low-cost options for clothing and household goods. All proceeds from the store support Crossroads’ efforts to serve those in need throughout central Nebraska.
The organization also provides other services, including treatment foster family homes for children and adolescents, crisis stabilization and assessment, residential treatment centers and a therapeutic pregnant and parenting adolescent mothers’ program. These programs offer safe housing, counseling and appropriate allied therapy in supportive environments. The organization is able to provide these services because of a network of generous supporters and donors. These donations are essential to the success of the organization and its programs.
The Thrift Store
BROKEN BOW — A Central Nebraska nonprofit organization is opening a thrift store to support its homeless outreach services. Crossroads Mission Avenue is headquartered in Hastings and operates homeless shelters and thrift stores in Hastings, Kearney, Grand Island, Holdrege, and Lexington. The Lexington location will also offer homeless services. It is expected to open in 2024.
The new Mission Avenue Thrift Store will supply a local option for low-cost clothing and household goods, as well as an opportunity for Custer County residents to recycle unneeded items. All proceeds from the store will directly support the efforts of Crossroads to provide meals and care for the homeless.
Crossroads offers a 4-Phase Recovery Program and transitional housing, and provides one-on-one case management that equips guests for successful living after their time at the shelter and leads to homelessness prevention. It will also sponsor a Community Voucher program and will offer a variety of other indigent services.
The Shelter
Located on the Kearney Crossroads campus, the shelter offers comprehensive care in a nurturing environment. This includes safe shelter, hot meals, life skills classes, and one-on-one case management to help guests gain employment, financial independence, and stable housing. This helps them to avoid homelessness in the future.
The new facility also features 15 long-term transitional housing apartments. These efficiency-style apartments are designed to offer an affordable housing option for low income residents of Buffalo County. The new housing site will accept applications from eligible individuals referred by community agencies, as well as graduates of the Crossroads 4-Phase Recovery Program.
In addition to its homeless shelter, Crossroads operates the Mission Avenue Thrift Store, which provides job training and employment opportunities for its guests. The proceeds from the store directly support the shelter’s mission to bring glory to God through helping people. The thrift store is open to the public and is a great place to find secondhand clothing, furniture, antiques, and other household items.
The Transitional Housing Facility
KEARNEY, Neb. – A nonprofit organization is expanding its services to help more people in need of shelter and transitional housing. Crossroads Mission Avenue is opening a new location in Lexington and plans to begin construction on an emergency shelter and transitional living facility in 2024. The facility will be built at the former Love in Action site, which is currently being used as a thrift store to raise funds.
The Lexington location is a result of community input and fundraising efforts. “We have had a lot of feedback from sheriff’s offices that have brought them people,” Crossroads Executive Director Daniel Buller said.
Another recent addition to the nonprofit’s services is a Mission Avenue Thrift in Broken Bow. The shop will offer local residents a low-cost option for clothing and household goods. The proceeds from the store will help Crossroads provide meals and services to the community.
